Privacy Policy

shffflr is an iOS app that shuffles your Apple Music library. It is made by Nathan Bussiere, an individual developer.

The short version

shffflr has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. I receive no data about you or your listening — none, ever.

There is nothing for me to sell, share, lose or hand over, because nothing reaches me in the first place. The app does talk to Apple, because it has to: it plays your Apple Music library. That happens under your own account, directly between your device and Apple, and is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

What the app accesses on your device

When you first open shffflr, iOS asks your permission for Media & Apple Music. If you grant it, the app can read:

  • your Apple Music library — playlists, albums, artists and songs
  • your Apple Music recently played items
  • your subscription status, so it knows whether playback is possible

It does not read your contacts, photos, location, health data, calendars, microphone or camera, and it does not ask for them. You can revoke the permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Media & Apple Music.

What leaves your device, and where it goes

Everything that leaves your device goes to Apple, as part of using Apple Music:

Requests for your library contents To list and shuffle what you own
Search queries you type To search the Apple Music catalogue
Requests to play specific songs To play them
Requests for artwork images To display album and artist art

These are ordinary Apple Music requests, made with your own credentials, the same as if you were using Apple's Music app. I do not see them, receive copies of them, or have any means of accessing them.

What is stored on your device

  • the current shuffle queue and your position in it
  • a short list — at most 20 — of items you recently played in shffflr
  • cached copies of your library listings, track lists and artwork references

All of it stays on your device. None of it is transmitted anywhere. Deleting the app removes all of it permanently.

What shffflr does not do

  • No accounts, sign-ups or passwords
  • No analytics or crash reporting
  • No advertising or ad identifiers
  • No third-party SDKs of any kind
  • No tracking or data brokers
  • No sale of personal information

This is verifiable rather than merely asserted: the app contains no networking code of its own and no third-party dependencies.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal data a company holds about you. I hold none, so there is nothing for me to produce or erase. The controls that matter are on your device:

  • revoke Media & Apple Music access in Settings, at any time
  • delete the app, which erases everything shffflr has stored

Children

shffflr is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone, including children. It requires an Apple Music subscription to play music.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, material changes are unlikely; if one ever collected anything, it would be announced in the app before it took effect.
